CBD is the hottest plant in town, and now with Ohio’s official legalization of cannabidiol, it’s popping up on store shelves everywhere. But what is it exactly? CBD or cannabidiol is the non-psychoactive compound found in hemp or cannabis sativa and does not make you high, but is showing to be one of the most healing plants in the world.
CBD was sold in stores up until late last year because of the federal farm bill that stated hemp can be cultivated and sold in the US so long as it has 0.3% of THC or less. Then, the Ohio pharmacy board threw a wrench in the system and stated they do not allow CBD sales outside of Ohio’s new medical marijuana dispensaries. So us and many other businesses were confused by this gray line that had been drawn, and so most companies took the products off their shelves. We slowed down and stopped making innovative medicinal products with hemp CBD, which hurt our business and hurt your ability to heal yourself.
In a modern world suffering from overpopulation, where the land is being stripped, the food processed and poisoned, the medicine often causing more harm than good, it’s important to return to the roots that guided our evolution. The natural ways which worked for hundreds of generations before us is still alive and well, and our family is here to offer insight into how plant medicines can improve your everyday wellness.
Woodland Herbal Apothecary is hosting a 3-hour hands-on workshop, taught by our family of Herbalists. Woodland Herbal is made up of four generations of Herbalists who specialize in creating plant-based natural remedies, natural body care, and more. This comprehensive workshop will go over a wide range of topics and teachings about all things Herbalism, including how to make plant medicines, how to grow and harvest herbs, recipe making, and much more, as well as a hands-on experience making teas, tinctures, extracts, and salves. All attendees will take home a goodie bag of herbal goodness, too.
This Herbalism Workshop will be held on July 27th from 9am to 12pm at Roscoe Village’s Lock Landing in the Visitor Center. This workshop is very limited and is open to ages 18+. All experience welcome! The non-refundable class fee is $30 and must be prepaid to Roscoe Village. A few months ago, we published an article detailing our mission, where we discuss our views about the natural world and our place in it, as well as how we are aiming to give back. You can find our mission statement below. The short and sweet is that we plant a local Ohio tree for every item sold, and as of the publishing of this article, we’ve succeeded in funding well over 600 trees!
Who’s ready to win some herbal awesomeness? We’re officially announcing our first giveaway!

My name is Jenni Parsons and I would like to introduce you to my mama and Leah’s nana, Barbara Keith. She is the matriarch of our herbal family. She has been passionately using and growing herbs since the age of 14. While she makes and uses herbal medicines, her talents shine in the kitchen using culinary herbs. In the interest of introduction and encouraging others to play with herbs, she kindly agreed to an interview with me.

For decades, anything to do with cannabis, or hemp, had been outlawed, looked down on, and thought to be criminal by many. Even the very mention of the plant was shunned. Thankfully, since the advent of the internet, saner heads have prevailed, clearing up truth and laying waste to propaganda and smear campaigns that have misinformed millions across the globe. And perhaps no country has been affected more so than the minds of the USA. Where it was once thought that cannabis was a harmful drug, reported to cause brain damage, bad decisions and other obscure defects, it’s now becoming common knowledge that the plant is indeed useful for a myriad of medicinal applications.*

The winter chill has descended upon us in Ohio, and with it the snow has been falling in pearlescent sheets of white crystal, and so it’s beginning to feel a lot like the holidays. But the holiday season has turned into a nightmare. Did that last sentence catch you off guard?
Well, it’s true.
When many families must save all year to afford a gift giving extravaganza or choose going in debt for much of the new year to be able to pull off their family’s Christmas, then the holiday is becoming more stressful than it should and the gift giving is being done for the wrong reasons entirely. The holidays are not about shopping, nor are they about sitting through some service. But do beware, because big business and marketing companies will have you believing it’s all about the gifts you buy, and will have a heyday making you feel like you should buy more, and more, and…
